Aikido Kisshomaru Ueshiba Interview & Technique
An Exclusive Interview with Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba
Under the leadership of Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba, son and successor of Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba, Aikido evolved from a uniquely Japanese martial art into a worldwide discipline. For decades, he directed the historic Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, preserving his father's legacy while guiding the international growth of Aikido and inspiring generations of practitioners around the globe.
In 1987, our collaborator Salvador Herraiz had the rare privilege of meeting with Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo for an exclusive interview. During this remarkable conversation, the Doshu shares his insights into the philosophy, history, and evolution of Aikido, reflects on the life and teachings of the Founder, and discusses the relationship between Aikido and the broader tradition of Japanese martial arts.
This invaluable historical document is complemented by rare footage from the same visit, featuring classes and technical demonstrations by Waka Sensei Moriteru Ueshiba—Kisshomaru Ueshiba's son and the current Doshu—as well as instruction by Kisshomaru Ueshiba himself.
More than a technical presentation, this program offers a unique opportunity to witness the thoughts, teachings, and legacy of the family entrusted with preserving and transmitting Aikido to the world. A must-have documentary for every serious student of Aikido and Japanese martial arts.
